Terrace Hill Gains Planning Permission for Bishop Auckland Scheme

Terrace Hill is delighted to announce that planning permission has been granted by Wear Valley District Council for its leisure and retail scheme at Tindale Crescent, Bishop Auckland.

The development will regenerate land which has been vacant and derelict since the closure of Warner Electrics in 2003. With around 800 jobs expected to be created both during the development phase and at the scheme once it is fully operational, Tindale Crescent offers a significant number of new long term employment opportunities for the community.

The c 150,000 sq ft leisure and retail park will include:

  • A new Sainsbury’s food store of approximately 60,000 sq ft of net sales area;
  • A 58,000 sq ft leisure complex, comprising a six-screen, 1,000-seat multiplex cinema, along with a bingo hall and ten-pin  bowling alley;
  • Two restaurants including a drive-through facility;
  • A brand new Northern Premier League standard stadium for Bishop Auckland Football Club, which will provide muc needed facilities for players and fans alike; and
  • Associated car parking, hard and soft landscaping and highways works, to
  • provide better access, both to this site and adjoining land ownerships, which could lead to future regeneration opportunities

With planning approved by the district council, the scheme now has to be referred to a Government Office for the North East before construction commences.  Following this, Terrace Hill anticipates that works will begin in early in the New Year. The delivery schedule for the overall scheme is around 15 months, with the stadium expected to be ready in time for the 20010/11 season, when BAFC will play its first ‘home’ fixture since 2002.
