Terrace Hill Group plc and Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Limited are delighted to announce that planning permission has been granted by Kerrier District Council for the development of a new Sainsbury’s food store and filling station in Helston, which when completed will become the southern most food store on the United Kingdom mainland.
The development, which will be located on land formerly used as an overspill car park for local theme park, The Flambards Experience, will bring approximately 350 new jobs to the area. The original proposals received strong backing from residents and the business community, with more than 90% of the public and 75% of Helston’s high street traders confirming their support for the proposals at a public presentation of the project in July.
This is the second planning gain in a month for Terrace Hill in partnership with Sainsbury’s. In Bishop Auckland, permission was recently granted for a 150,000 sq ft retail and leisure scheme anchored by a 60,000 sq ft Sainsbury’s store.
It is anticipated that construction of the Helston store will commence in the New Year, with completion due in early 2010.
